Music is another way of speaking our thoughts aloud and helps us when we need comfort. It gives us the opportunity to take the chance to communicate with one another, like giving each other song suggestions to show how we are feeling.
A quote I have recently discovered is, “Where words fail, music speaks.” Therefore, a participant gave me an idea that people would like to learn how individuals think about and use music. I plan to interview different people that have a connection with music and use music as a gateway to vent. My article is about how individuals use music as a coping mechanism. This article will include interviews of both Crownpoint High School students and other Crownpoint community members who use music as a coping mechanism. My goal is to prove that music can help individuals to mangage their emotions and improve their well-being.
The lyrics of any type of music can affect one’s mood. In my interviews I asked, “Do you believe lyrics in music could affect anyone’s mood?” One participant responded, “Yes, because the lyrics have a meaning behind the words.”
In survey of Crownpoint High School students, a few of my peers answered “yes” as well. Therefore, there is evidence that lyrics and the meaning behind them may affect one’s mood.
According to the Discovery webiste, 50% of teens use music as a coping mechanism. Additionally, The National Institutes of Health states, “Music, as an immersive and broad artistic medium, plays a pivotal role in the lives of adolescents. This stage of life, commonly known as adolescence, is viewed as a crucial period for psychological, social, and cognitive development.” This demonstrates that music plays an impactufl role in everyone’s lives, and that most adolescents seek comfort in music.
I interviewed a family member who stated, “Music helps me focus on life to make better decisions and focus on the future.” The second interview participant, a CHS student, stated, “Music is particularly important in life. Music has always been an important part of my life because it helps me get through situations, I do not want to be in.” The last participant, a CHS student, stated, “Music is a big support in my life. Music has helped get through tough situations and it also helped me get things done.” These interviews have given me the feedback that I needed; these responses indicated that it is possible to have music by your side to get through any situation.
Through my interviews, surveys, and research, I doscovered that music can play a pivotal role in anyone’s life. Music helps many who have had challenges in their life. Many song lyrics have given people motivation and support to keep going in life and push through any tough situation. My research has also opened my eyes to the fact that 50% of teens in this generation use music to vent. Overall, teenagers and adults go through situations every day and often use music to vent at the end of the day.
“Where words fail, music speaks.” This quote has been expressed in many ways. Music can express many emotions, such as rage, fear, joy, or melancholy. There is a genre of music to fit any mood, day or night, as a coping mechanism.
