Baking might seem like a small hobby that many only do during birthdays, celebrations etc. but baking is something that can relieve stress, or just be a hobby that someone is good at. Some may say baking is a hard job or hobby, but others believe that baking brings many learning skills that could possibly be used for many different situations. I believe that baking is a fun hobby to do, and I have learned a lot from it as well.
I was interested to find out how many students here at Crownpoint High School enjoy baking. After surveying a variety of students at CHS, I found that 50% like to bake and the other 50% don’t.
There are many pros of baking. For example, being able to learn how to bake different baked foods, being able to enjoy something you made with family and friends and being able to also cheer someone up with something fresh and sweet are just some of the positive aspects of baking. There are not many cons of baking, but baking does get messy and can get annoying to clean. Also, the amount of propane you will use can get expensive. Believe it or not, baking can change the lives of many different people and make them become even better people. Baking has changed my thoughts and feelings about certain things; I also gained a lot of courage to be able to put my thoughts and feelings out by baking something unique. After interviewing these students from CHS I got to learn how those people felt about baking.
The first person I interviewed was a teacher, Lindsay Belone. During her interview, she told me that she loves eating fresh baked goods but does not enjoy baking them. One question I asked was “Do you think baking helps with stress?” Her response was “Yes, I think so. Baking is fun for people, especially people who own a KitchenAid (those things are expensive). But yes, baking is a stress reliever because I think doing something with your hands will change your mood. Especially if you bake for someone else, it makes you feel good that you are baking for someone else.” This is an interesting response, especially since she is a teacher that goes through plenty of stress grading papers and dealing with students on a daily basis.
The students that I interviewed were freshmen and some of them do not like sweets and can’t tolerate them. Dominque Largo said that he does not like sweets and cannot stand the sweetness of them. This makes me wonder why some people do not like sweets even though to others they are the best things to snack on. Another student I interviewed was Kituana Joe, who told me she enjoys baking and would possibly make it a career someday if she is committed to it. Interviewing her made me also realize that some people like to bake and want to make it something that could last them their whole lives.
Discussing this topic with others was really exciting and I enjoyed it. Being able to know what other people think about baking says a lot and made me realize that baking is not the most important or fun thing to do for some people. Also, I believe that baking is something that can help me relax and express my feelings and ideas through baked goods. If I had a career, I would probably do baking because I really enjoy it.
