The school dog, Carlos, has become loved and adored by all. But what is his story? Well, firstly let’s start off when he first started appearing around the high school. During the beginning of the school year, in my physical education class, I would see multiple dogs hanging around the football field. By that time, we were learning ultimate Frisbee, and that’s when a group of guys in my class saw the group of dogs and called them over, but Carlos was the only one to come over. This started to become a habit, when our class would go outside, we would always see him. That’s when the same group of guys named him Carlos. A few days later, I realized that I knew the dog; the dog owner’s house was only three houses away from mine. From that day onward, I noticed Carlos would follow my neighbors to school, since they leave earlier than me. That’s originally how Carlos started coming more and more to the high school. But recently, Carlos has not been seen. Where do people think Carlos is?
Interviews with High School Students
I interviewed students that go to my school who usually hang around Carlos, which was mainly during lunch time. They all said that they thought Carlos was an abandoned dog. The first person I interviewed said, “I don’t know, I just thought that Carlos just appeared.” Another student said, “I originally thought that Carlos was dumped off.” Finally, the last student said, “I think he just wandered away from home.” I will not disclose the names of these students for their privacy. Though the first two students were wrong, it turns out that the last student was right.
Carlos’s History
Carlos’s owner has been in the same house since I was born. I personally didn’t know him, but my neighbors are related to him. Just a few months ago, people noticed how Carlos would constantly hang around the middle school and high school. People observed how Carlos was all over Crownpoint too. Honestly, nobody even knows where Carlos came from, they just thought that he was an abandoned dog that got dropped off. Well, here’s the sad story about Carlos. About two months ago, Carlos’s owner, whose name I will not disclose, sadly passed away. It was said the owner had a heart attack and was found dead in his house. The owner’s house remained empty for weeks before the police eventually came. About a week later, the owner’s sons came to figure out what to do with all the stuff. It’s unclear if he started taking care of the dogs or not. But the owner’s son only stayed for a few hours before leaving that same day. Just to disclose, the owner’s sons don’t live anywhere near Crownpoint–they live a few hours away. So, it wasn’t possible for them to feed the dogs daily. I will not disclose names or addresses, but when he left, I noticed how Carlos would always be at the middle and high school, where students would feed him during lunch. But I’m not entirely sure if Carlos was being fed or not by anyone besides the students at school. All I know is that the neighbor across from me would feed Carlos and his brother. I’m sure that the neighbor knew the owner passed away, considering he’s the director of the entire neighborhood where I live. But a few weeks after the incident, Carlos would go everywhere and anywhere else in Crownpoint, but just not his own home. It’s relatively unknown that Carlos has a brother, I’m not sure what the other dog’s name is, but that dog is always located at the house. To this day I still see the two dogs around the neighborhood.
Where Carlos is at now? And where can he be found now?
It’s pretty obvious where Carlos is now, but for the people who don’t know, Carlos is now considered a homeless dog. Yes, he technically still has a home, but he has no owner or anybody to take care of him. I personally believe that a person or animal doesn’t have a ‘home’ to go to, if they don’t have a meaning to go back for. But you can see Carlos all around Crownpoint. He mainly hangs around the flea market, Bashas, West Mesa, Speedway, and the mid and high school. But sadly recently, Carlos has been nowhere to be seen around Crownpoint. Nobody has seen him around recently for the past few weeks. My friends and I were asking if people think he got killed or got adopted into another family, but I personally think the guy’s sons took the two dogs back with him. I just hope that Carlos and his brother are getting the attention they deserve.
