The new life that begins after high school is truly terrifying and no one is prepared for it, but thankfully, you’re not alone. Everyone in high school fears the future, but in my article, we will discuss what our fellow graduating seniors think and feel at Crownpoint High School.
Every high school student looks forward to the very day that they accept their diploma and are finally relieved when the labor is over, but of course, some don’t believe in college and some do. For the ones that do, the schooling starts all over again for another four years in whatever major they want to pursue. For the ones that don’t, it’s time to leave the nest and look for a job while also entering adult life by paying taxes and bills. But of course, life after high school isn’t always like this. Sometimes it will be hard, sometimes it will be easy, but it’s important to know that with the support from your family, friends, and teachers, it will all be okay. The more knowledge you gain, the easier it’ll be, which is why it’s important for us, as freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and even seniors, to do our work, ask as many questions as we can, and take advantage of as many opportunities as possible, because it will all become useful in the future for resumes.
What must it be like to attend four years of schooling? Based on our fellow seniors remarks, they said it was quite an adventure and the labor is not something they want to do again, but the experiences, friends, trips, and interactions were something incredibly significant to them. Kassidy Allison also said, “High school was quite the enigmatic experience where I’ve made and loss friends and people, but it’s all a part of life, and from that, I’ve learned valuable lessons that I will utilize throughout my life the very moment I accept my diploma in my cap and gown. But, most importantly, never let someone determine your worth. Do what keeps you awake at night. Do what you’re scared of. And most importantly, challenge yourself to do the best you can.” That being said, the data from my survey also shows that 17/20 students considered high school to be challenging and irritating, yet worthwhile. So, from my interviewers’ feedback, I can infer that high school won’t be easy for all of us, but it is important to know that we should always be brave and not let anyone discourage us.
What specific pathways or pursuits are you considering pursuing after high school? Many students attend or enroll in high school not knowing what career they want to pursue, and that’s okay. “A good tip for those who aren’t sure on what they want to major in, is to participate in as many extracurricular activities as you can, that way you’ll find out what things you like and dislike, therefore it helps you get a better sense of what you want to do,” said Angela Lujan. Another great example was shared in an interview in which the anonymous interview subject noted, “When I was in school, I didn’t take college into consideration and as soon as I graduated, I applied for jobs and present, I have a better sense in the things I like and dislike which will assist me in pursuing future careers.” Additionally, I questioned my fellow peers in a survey, in which I asked, “Will you be attending college after high school?” While 13/20 said yes and 7 said no, I cannot decide for them. Their passion is something they must discover for themselves. Lastly, I can agree with my interviewees on this, because no one can tell you what you can and can’t be; this is something we must ascertain for ourselves.
What factors contribute to the enduring impact of high-school experiences, creating cherished memories post-graduation? Labor is definitely not something everyone loves; we love our teachers and friends. But what makes high school consequential? “For me, it was everything about it, from the teachers, the cooks, the trips, the group projects, and mostly my friends because they made high school a brighter place and although I may not be entirely ready for adulthood, I am exuberant for the life ahead of me,” said Angela Lujan. From Angela’s statement I can concur that different things make us happy and high school will leave different memories for all of us. Lastly, from my survey, 18/20 students voted that high school was a cherished memory for them due to the teachers, friends, teachings, trips, and even the work that brought them together, creating friendships between the students.
From this article, I hope that everyone learned something about the remaining years ahead of us that will help us achieve our dreams and more. Given these points, I hope everyone has a memorable high school experience, following after high school and to enter adulthood filled with great wisdom attained from our years in high school.
