Should students have homework?

Should+students+have+homework%3F

During the past few years, students have been complaining about homework. For years, teachers and parents thought homework was necessary when it comes to educating students. It’s even more complicated when it comes to Middle School students, and high school students. High school students should at least get 4-5 assignments per week, especially if it’s reading. They will typically read for about 15 to 20 minutes per day.

Parents often complain about how after-school time should be for the free time for students and not tie for completing assignments. Research shows little proof about how homework improves academic achievement for students.

However, some researchers say there’s value in homework, even for younger students such as Elementary and Middle School students. When completed thoughtfully and correctly, homework can help students develop study habits and time management skills. The key to effective homework, teachers say, is keeping homework related to classroom learning. Many experts suggest no homework for kindergarteners, and little homework for first and second grade students.

There are parents who think Schoolwork is already enough rather than having homework, which is too much. Other parents consider homework for students’ education since they think it’s important for them.

Parents are worried about the mental health of their children, when it comes to school and homework. Homework and schoolwork can cause stress, anxiety, depression, physical ailments, and even cause lower test scores. It can cause many mental illnesses that are bad for kids at their age. It can even negatively impact communication skills hindering their ability to effectively socialize with others.

Som researchers also found that homework can be good for students. They say it proves how much students learn inside the classroom and how its more positively associated with the student’s achievement. They suggest that it improves scores on measures of achievement and attitude. The homework that the students are given can improve their test scores and the likelihood of attending a good college. Other researchers say that homework isn’t good for students at all. It proves that homework is not meant to connect with the student’s development needs or cultivate other critical life skills.

Homework helps teachers measure how well the students know and don’t know certain skills, so they can determine how to help the student. Its also more likely to help students reinforce math, reading, writing, and spelling skills. Assignments that look more frustrating and hard don’t require the teacher’s feedback since they don’t relate to what the teacher is teaching in the classroom.

Teachers can assign work and homework that has not yet been taught in the classroom at all. It can frustrate the students and parent. When it comes to homework, other parents may not know English or may work long hours at their jobs, making it difficult to help them. This can cause stress to both the parent and the student.

Assigning homework multiple days a week can cause the student stress and low grades, if the student is not doing it. The homework that is given to the student is given a grade, and if the student is not doing the homework that’s given, it causes the grade to go lower and lower. Teachers should know that giving out homework to the students everyday of a school week may be too much for the students to handle. Since students have assignments for multiple classes, teachers should communicate with one another to assure that students aren’t loaded down with large amounts of homework for every class.

Some private schools have homework, and some do not, but they don’t assign as much homework as public schools. Researchers say that parents don’t complain much about how much homework that is assigned to students since private schools are considered more academically prestigious than public schools. Students at private schools tend to perform better on standardized tests. For example, eighth grade private schools averaged about 20 points higher than an average public school. Private schools have a higher chance of being successful rather than being unsuccessful, while public schools have a lower chance of being successful.

Though there has been much debate on whether or not homework is good or bad, we all have different thoughts on it, and it is hard to know what is best for the students and the teachers. But I think students are right about the fact that homework is not necessary. What do you think?
