Do you remember when you were little, and your parents asked you “What do you want to be when you grow up?” Almost every kid replied with “police officer, doctor, nurse, astronaut, firefighter,” or any of the other “big jobs” out there. Now that we’re older we look back and may begin to realize what we actually want to do. Most students in High School have no clue what they want to do after high school; they go with the flow. As a high schooler now, I can say that your high school years will lay the foundation of a lifetime of learning and growth. In this article, I will discuss what I have planned for myself and what I would love to conquer after high school.
When I graduate from high school, I plan to pursue higher education at a good college like NAU which is in Flagstaff Arizona. My goal is to enroll in courses/programs, allowing me to explore my passion for becoming a livestock veterinarian. I aim to develop the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed in my chosen profession. What I’m going to do later is try and get into a program that will give me an actual view of the veterinarians and what they do. This will allow me to get more knowledge and know what they do on a day-to-day basis.
I conducted a survey to determine some future goals of Crownpoint High School students. Most of the students that took the survey said that they would rather have a job than go to school. That is good because they will still make money but without going to school. However, they may get a lower paying job or less advanced job such as working at a restaurant, as a janitor, or something like that.
When I interviewed a freshman student named Liam Kalleco, I asked about what he wants to do when he gets out of high school and whether or not he plans to go to college. Liam said that he would go to college because he wants to get noticed by colleges and, he wants to be a D1 football player and hopefully make it to the NFL someday (National Football League). I do think that Liam will make it. He just needs to be determined and have that motivation to make it to the NFL.
In another interview with student Mia Walley, she explained that she will start working because she wants money right away. She did mention that as time goes on, she may consider going to college. Freshman Cherish Yazzie said that she plans to go to college and get a master’s degree at MIT because she wants her dream job, which is being an aerospace engineer. Overall, the responses demonstrate that other students are also planning their futures and that they are developing good mindsets with regard to their hopes and dreams.
I conducted a survey to provide different opinions on college, work, and future plans. Among the survey responses, eight students want to go to college and have a job and five other students just want to have a job. Eight students will do it on their own and five will have their family members help them. Twelve students said they want to leave Crownpoint to get a better education. Only one student stated plans to stay here in Crownpoint. It’s important to explore different careers so that you can get what your heart desires.
In conclusion, it is good to plan out your future and figure out what you want to do. If I work hard in school, then it will pay off by achieving my goal of becoming a livestock veterinarian. It all takes determination to conquer what you want to do. If you’re negative about your future and if you say it’s difficult and give up, then you’re not going to go anywhere. You must be positive and think positive.
